The Nissan R32 Skyline GTR of Grant Cooper was on the limit to finish ahead of the pack recently. Grant was competing in Rd 1 of the bitumen sprints promoted by Stuart Iless Motorsport Promotions and FNQ Motorsports Club at MAKO TRAC in Mareeba. A great field of around 25 cars, 2 at a time on the tight circuit made great spectator viewing. Steven Van der Berg with his 65 Mustang placed 22nd outright and like most of the big cars worked hard to get around.
Grant Cooper has a car that performs well in sprints and hillclimbs around NQ and boasts some great wish-list add-ons underbonnet!!Must be around 400hp and 4wd to boot. Maris Jaunzems from Cairns placed well in his ever-stylish Porsche 914/6 GT , coming 16th outright.
Promotor Stuart Iles with his Lancer Evolution 8MR placed 8th outright.

Round 2 will take place on June 13th.

Car and Bike Shows There are some great events in 2010 for car and bike buffs. One such event is the dual attractions over 23rd and 30th May on Northern Beaches in Townsville. The first is “NQ WHEELS” at Balgal Beach sponsored by Shannons, showing everything with wheels. Mowers, stationary motors, pushbikes, cars, bikes etc. There will be markets, junior beach fishing and markets. The 30th will be the BLUEWATER UTE,CAR & BIKE SHOW. This is a great event for NQ with hundreds of machines, rods, vintage classic cars and bikes in a family atmosphere. Live band, bar and canteen and market stalls.
